How to Feel Like a Million Bucks
Believe In Yourself Even a Little Bit
Take small actions in baby steps to overcome fear of judgement of doubt and in turn you learn to believe in yourself. Try something new even if others disagree with you.
- Go to places alone: You can go dining, have breakfast, go to the movies, attend ball games, festivals or do a fun thing that you love. It does not have to involve all of this. Choose your own.
- Research stuff that you have questions on and need answers for: I google information frequently when I am unsure of something. I browse the web and search for facts, or I read books from the library.
- Make your own decisions for minor stuff as a start: If there is one thing I learned in life, is that almost nothing is an emergency. I sit on a problem for a bit, and pause, ponder, and then make a decision. A lot of times the answer comes to you when you’re not trying.
- Host your own small party (less than 10 ppl): It’s not always costly as you might think to plan small parties. You want to celebrate a birthday, perhaps a tribute or honor. A colleague just got promoted, so do a potluck. People like to share their favorite food or snack more than you realize. You can always mention a BYOB (bring your own beer), if there will be alcohol included. Set a timeframe to avoid anxiety and stress. Do two and half hour party, three hours, it’s up to your comfort.
- Create your own meetup group: This probably pairs with #4- Whatever topic is important for discussion, or you want to build rapport among friends regarding the topic. I find it builds trust and connection when you find there is a common interest or hobby. And people just want to mingle and even decompress from a tough day at work or personal issues going on at home. It can be a multitude of reasons. Remember you can limit the number of guests to invite that’s manageable for you.
- Take a class you feel uncomfortable with: Baking, cooking, Spanish class. If it seems daunting, try beginner classes- it’s baby steps. That is actually how you build yourself up, not by just diving in, jumping ten steps ahead and although some do that, but I don’t recommend it. One step at a time, one foot in front of the other.
- Nurture your inner child: What would you tell your younger self if you felt sick? I would take my temperature, want to have tea. Eat soup. Go to bed. Watch t.v.(or not) and rest. It’s about treating self with love and care as you would treat a friend. Go to the park. Have a picnic. Dance anywhere. Some things you may have missed in childhood that you can enjoy now. Let go of resentment and grudges. Focus on what you can do now and improve. Forgive yourself and forgive others.
- Volunteer at a place or task that seems challenging or because you feel good helping: Recently, I assisted with seniors as a friendly visitor. In the past, I delivered meals to seniors and have accompanied others delivering meals. I’ve been a runner in serving drinks and giving tickets at a festival. If you have kids, you can bring them along to help you, and they learn what volunteering and helping others means and how it makes them feel.
- Discover your superpower and embrace it (everyone has one): Tap into your inner soul. Even if it may not make sense, because that’s when you discover it. I have. Years ago, I was told my pieces were well written, which I never thought about at the time. Recently, I just started writing more seriously. However, I see myself as more of an influencer and encourager more than anything. That’s what matters to me.
- Look at each task as an adventure: This is why you see others excel in what they do in any profession. A lot of them look at tasks or goals as adventure rather than a burden. They are also over achievers. Some are perfectionists. Whatever it is that you love, do it because it’s a hobby and you love what you do, not because you felt forced into it. Success is doing what you love and enjoying the task on the process. Sure, for a lot of people it’s about money, but for others it’s passion and drive.

Whatever it is you decide, just remember no one in this world accomplished anything overnight. Or else, they wouldn’t be human. We are meant here for a purpose, big or small. Let it be just that and take every decision you make in stride. Try and you might surprise yourself and just Believe in You.
